Vigorish is a term used in brick-and-mortar casinos that refers to the fee or commission taken by the house. It is also known as juice, under-juice, the cut, margin, take, or vig.
There are several ways the casino uses to take a cut from the players. For example, in a game of baccarat, a casino will usually charge a 5% commission each time a player wins by betting on the banker. In craps, casinos will charge the same commission every time a player places a buy bet.
Casinos also charge vigorish in poker games. Since the game is played against other players and the house doesn’t have a way to profit, casinos often take a small cut out of every pot.
Regardless of the situation or the game you’re playing, casino players often say that “you have to pay the vig” to play.
