When all players have laid all their first cards, the player with the highest card will win the trick. The ace is the highest value while the lowest is 2. When playing and you cannot follow the suit, you must lay down another card of choice. However, hearts and the queen of spades cannot be played during the first round. The round ends when all the players have laid down all the cards. The overall aim is to avoid winning tricks containing hearts or the queen of spades as it is these cards which will award points. Hearts also has a rule where you cannot start a new trick by playing the hearts until the hearts have been broken. However, that rule will not apply if a player has only hearts in his hand. Hearts are broken when a player cannot match the suit played and instead plays a heart.
