Set Sail with Play’n GO’s Latest Release — Captain Glum: Pirate Hunter

May 19, 2023 Anna Kiselova
Despite releasing three successful slots in April, Play’n GO isn’t taking a break. The famous developer added another exciting title to its 250+ game collection on May 4 — Captain Glum: Pirate Hunter. The game centres around pirates, an untapped theme in the slot sector, and seems to be the beginning of a unique adventure slot series.
The action-packed storyline follows the fearless Captain Glum and his crew on their journey to fight the notorious Pirate Queen’s Army on the Skull Island waters. The slots’ colourful visuals, dynamic animations, and lively music help bring the story to life. However, the straightforward yet engaging gameplay is what keeps the players glued to the screen. Captain Glum: Pirate Hunter rolls out its wood-bound 5x3 grid on top of a beach setting, as expected. Nevertheless, the bird’s eye perspective of the waves crashing onto the shore immediately makes the game stand out from its competitors. The piano accordion sounding in the background and the cloud-wrapped reels also add to the mood and ambiance.
Symbol-wise, Captain Glum follows the standards. It has eight base symbols — two ships, Captain Glum, Pirate Queen, and four card suits — worth between 0.50 and 7.50 coins. Still, the game’s special symbols are the real stars of the show. This Play’n GO instalment features wilds, scatters, and free spins. A Permanent Wild, represented by golden ships, appears in the base game. It moves to the third reel, leaving Wake Wilds behind. They pay as much as Captain Glum and Pirate Queen do and substitute all symbols except the scatter. The golden skull icons, the game’s scatters, are even more valuable. Two will trigger a Permanent Wild, and three will launch the Free Spins round. In the latter case, the game’s perspective switches from a calm beach to a sea battle. Two ships enclose the 5x3 grid, firing at each other, and a Pirate vs Pirate Hunter score counter appears in the background. Cannons destroy the opposing ship, sinking its flagship symbols and expanding the reels. The Pirate vs Pirate Hunter score changes in players' favour the more flagship symbols of the rival ship they sink. If they’re in the lead by the end of the free spin round, they’ll unlock the Treasure Hunt bonus game. The round displays a pop-up window with three treasure chests before you. These hold 2x, 3x, and 10x multipliers. Choosing the right chest can boost your prize tenfold, but combining it with other rewarding features in the game can help you hit the jackpot with 9,000x your bet.
