Dealer is a gambling term used in land-based casinos that refers to a casino employee who is in charge of dealing cards during casino table games. Another popular term for the dealer is croupier.
Virtually every table game in a casino is played with cards. While some casino tables have additional casino employees overseeing the game, such as laddermen in baccarat, croupiers are the only ones allowed to deal cards.
Before getting a job as a dealer, croupiers need to learn about various dealing procedures from accredited dealing schools. Afterwards, they have to obtain a license from the gaming authority that’s in charge in their jurisdiction and only then can they get a job as a dealer. In order to show the players that the games aren’t rigged, dealers follow numerous procedures when it comes to dealing cards, distributing chips, washing, and much more.
